Aboriginal
An Aboriginal works on a Sugar Cane Farm off the Cook Highway in Queensland. Aborigines were the first inhabitants of Australia and make up 1.6 percent of Australia's population. In the early days of colonialism, government policies were disastrous for the Aboriginal people. First their land was being taken for settlement then for cattle ranches, family farms and most recently for mining. Not only was their land taken but also their children. The children were taken to be raised by white families. Today Aborigines are still worse off in terms of health, housing and education than most Australians.
