Boat builder
Beaches define the essence of being Australian although during the first half of the 200 years of European settlement the beaches were ignored. For the first European convicts and settlers the sea was a constant reminder of their distance from the motherland and the civilized world. Today Australians still refer to other countries as overseas. Here a boat builder on the wharf at Manly on Sydney's North Side.
