Sydney Barracks
For generations Australians fought wars in distant countries. Australians joined to defend ‘the motherland’ Britain during World War I and they fought alongside the Americans in Korea and Vietnam. During World War II the cities of Darwin, Broome and Townsville were bombed by the Japanese. It was the first act of war on Australian soil since the nation was founded in 1901. Here soldiers are listening to the revelry early in the morning at the Sydney Barracks.
