Although 90 percent of Indonesia's population is Muslim,  the Balinese are Hindu. Like Indonesia's Islam it is a world apart from that of the Middle East. Balinese Hinduism differs tremendous from that in India. The Balinese have a caste system, but there are no "untouchables."  The Balinese believe in a broad spectrum of gods, and good and evil spirits. These gods and spirits are pleased with regular temple rituals and daily offerings. Priests, recognizable by their white robes, play an important role during these temple rituals. Other activities of the priests include the daily making of holy water that is sold to the devotees.
