It's ironic however that when the myth of Bali as a paradise on earth was created, for the Balinese it was a time of chaos and disruption. The Dutch made themselves the protectors of Bali's culture and people, when at the same time they changed Balinese rituals as well as dissolved kingdoms and villages in order to fit Bali into their colonial administration. The Dutch colonial order meant disorder for the Balinese. And not only disorder but also poverty and hunger.
