The Mojave Desert is famous for it's Joshua tree. The Mormon pioneers called this tree after the biblical figure of Joshua because the trees uplifted limbs reminded them of Joshua praying. Unlike true trees, Joshua trees don't have growth rings. According to experts some Joshua trees in the Mojave Desert are hundreds of years old.
