Miami, Florida: Could you believe that Miami had a shanty town? I was amazed to hear this and had to check it out for myself. Apparently funds that were earmarked for affordable housing were going to improve the contractors homes instead of to the projects that they were earmarked for. I just always think about Karma. Organizers came up with the name Umoja, it thrived until a misplaced candle sent the place up in flames. When organizers tried to return to rebuild they were all arrested. Some of the homeless found suitable housing but Miami is still suffering from a lack of affordable housing.
