Life under the Habsburgs was not easy. In 1618 a war broke out between the Czech people and the Habsburgs over religious freedoms. The Czech people lost their rights, property and national identity due to forced Catholicisation and Germanisation. Demands for greater autonomy and self determination grew during the Industrialized Revolution. It's called the Czech National Revival and that is when Czech literature and the Czech language flourished. |

In 1918 the Czechoslovak Republic consisting of Bohemia, Monrovia, Silisia, Slovakia and Ruthenia came into existence. Nowadays the country has a population of more than 10 million people. |
