Old Young
After WW II the Czechoslovakian Republic became part of the Soviet world. Under communism companies no matter the number of employees 5 or 50, were nationalized. Although everyone was employed, it was impossible to disagree with the system and many intellectuals and students were thrown in jail. After the downfall of communism the government concentrated on the areas of human rights, private ownership and business law. Former state-owned companies were sold in a Small and Large Privatization Program. Czech film, theater, music and journalism have flourished in the absence of state censorship. Many people however face an uncertain future with changes to the former system of state housing, schools and hospitals.
