I'M IN MIAMI BITCH! AUB'S Q&A

December 13, 2013.

The AUB'S crew returned to Miami for another go 'round during Art Basel 2013. Their wall on 27th Street and NW 3rd Avenue reads "ALL US BANANAS." It's an unknowing nod to the Banana Republic that is known as Miami. There mural depicts monkeys with mountains of bananas. It fits right in with the scenery an instant classic for Wynhood. Go check it out for yourself!

AK: What do you write? Are you in a crew?

AUB: We write A.U.B. "Are U Blind"

AK: In what city did you start painting in the streets? Do you feel your work has influenced the community in return? If so, how? Is there a relationship between the artist and the community in which they work?

AUB: As a crew we started out in 1996 in Orange County. California.

AK: Did you go to school or are you self taught?

AUB: We are self taught or schooled by the streets.

AK: How did you get started in the arts and why?

AUB: We started out in the streets as teenage adolescents just wanting to vandalize and for the adrenaline of breaking the law.

AK: How long have you been working in the streets?

AUB: As a crew since 1996, we started out tagging and bombing freeways and the streets.

AK: Who or What inspires you the most?

AUB: We pretty much inspire each other to keep pushing and painting. We really focus on keeping the motivation and circle tight.

AK: What should the general public know about street art? What stereotype about street art/graffiti do you hate the most?

AUB: If "Bieber" is doing it, it must be "cool.” It aint no joke. Let your art speak for itself. Not everyone can paint graffiti.

AK:  Are you a full time artist? Do you have a day job? Is it best to be full time artist or not worry about it and make your $$$ elsewhere, that way you can paint what and how you want, which one offers a more creative outlook?

AUB: How ever you can make your money make it. Hustlin’ is an artform. Not everyone can deliver a pizza in under 30 minutes.

AK:  What are you working on now?

AUB: As a team we are all working on different productions. At the moment we just repainted our  "Miami wall.” It’s a long way from our home turf.

AK: What do you hope to achieve or accomplish by putting your work in the street?

AUB: All we hope to achieve as a crew is RESPECT. Cheers, The AUB'S.

Thanks!
